Abderahman Belgat was born in 1948 in Skikda in Algeria; He went into tourism in 1970 at the good old school of Club Med reps,before joining the legendary Parisian Palace in 1972 : the PLAZA ATHENEE, nominated « the world’s best hotel » by the specialist press,bankers and business people three years running in 1977,1978 and 1979.
In the decade 1972/1981, he was his General Controler as well as other properties in the Trust House Forte Group,which also owned Hotel GEORGES V in Paris.
In 1978 and 1979, while pursuing his career,he obtained a post-grad Diploma then a Masters successively, before preparing a PhD in management and organisation Sciences at the University of Paris Dauphine.
He’s co-author of 2 case studies on his experience at the Plaza Athenée,which were lectured on and taught in many universities and used by French Chambers of Commerce and Industry and abroad.
From 1982 to 1996. He was an investor, promoter and developer in the tourism and family hotel sector.
In 1985, he was elected « French Tourism’s Man of the year » by the Argentine press. The same year, he received the « Key to the City of Miami Beach« and the « Governor of Florida’s Medal of Honour » from Dade county, with the great success of Aeromexico’s inaugural Mexico City-Miami-Paris flight.
Acknowledged by his peers as a multicultural person, he was head-hunted to join the very closed circle of tourism Experts. He became a member of the Francophone Association of Experts and Scientists in Tourism ( A.F.E.S.T) in 1985, which he’s been Vice President of since 1993. He’s also Advisor to Overseas Commerce (C.C.E. since 2006)
From 1997 to 2000 : a real football fan and with the World Cup fast approaching in France, he decided to join the European and World leader of « Communication via Sport« group,which gave him exceptional apportunity of gaining and adding new career skills to the mix, at the cutting edge of new communication technology.
2001, true t the legendary « success story » of the ACCOR Group’s Co-Presidents and Founders,Paul Dubrule and Gérard Pelisson who he kept a special relationship with since the »Belle Epoque » at the Plaza Athenée ; Abderahman BELGAT joined the ACCOR group in 2001 to pursue their expansion in the Arab-Muslim world starting in Saudi Arabia.
2009 to April 2013, He become its Ambassador for Arab and Muslim countries and Director in charge of Special Projects in Africa and the Middle East.
As of November 13, 2014 by a decree signed by the President of the French Republic and the proposal of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, he was named « Knight in the National Order of Merit. »
Member of AMFORTH (World Association for Hotel and Tourist Training) at the last World Congress (Bologna, Italy on November 20 to 22, 2014), he became one of the Vice-Presidents. www.amforht.com.

He is now elected president of AMFORTH during the G.A. on November 11, 2022.
